Singapore Trip

We took advantage of being on this side of the world, and took a week-long trip to Singapore. What a GREAT place! We were so impressed by how clean and neat and organized and modern it was, and decided that we'd definitely like to return if we can squeeze it in.

The shopping was amazing, the food was wonderful, the people were super-friendly and the scenery was to die for!

Here are pics from our trip, with descriptions:

Ryan is 4 months old!

Ryan turned 4 months on October 21st. He has grown soooo much!
We just had his doctor's appointment this week, where he received 2 shots + an oral vaccine, but he was a super-duper trooper, and cried for only about 3 minutes.
He is weighing in at a whopping 7.2 kilograms, which is 15 pounds, 14 ounces! Now remember, he started off at 5 pounds, 11 ounces....which means that the kid has packed on over 10 pounds in 4 months! WOW!
His personality is really starting to develop now, and so far all signs point to a very happy boy! He's already a huge talker and will literally talk to the wall if left on his own for a period of time. He's getting stronger and stronger and has mastered holding up his own head. He can sit up in the Bumbo now, and has been introduced to his super-cool excersaucer, which he already loves and will stay in for as long as 20 minutes. He likes direct eye-contact, and will wiggle and squeal with excitement when he gets it- so cute! He has a HUGE smile that melts my heart every time!
Ryan LOVES LOVES LOVES Catherine and giggles in delight whenever she gives him attention. I remind her that she is his first friend, and she seems to take this responsibility pretty seriously, sitting by his side, cooing at him and holding up toys for his entertainment.
We are really enjoying Ryan and are so thankful for him!

Fat? No, Thin!

Last night we were enjoying a $40 slab of honey-baked ham. No, you did not read that incorrectly. It was $40. I was desperate. When I say meat is expensive here, I mean EXPENSIVE.
In any case, the slab had a thin layer of fat on it, so when I'd sliced it (very thinly, mind you) for dinner, each slice had a little sliver of fat.
I'd cut the sliver off Catherine's piece, and cut up the remainder of her ham into bite-sized pieces.
As we were eating, I noticed that she was about to stab the sliver of fat- so I said "no, no, don't eat that- that's fat".
To which she replied: "OK, I'll eat these, they're thin."
HAHA- out of the mouths of babes! :)

Family Day

We headed to Waterstones on Sunday for a family day- everyone enjoyed some swimming, Mike and I enjoyed the crepe lunch special, Ryan snoozed in the shade and Catherine participated in the children's craft- painting and decorating a Diya for Diwali (more info to come on Diwali). It was a great day!

Milestones

3 months old! Friend Becca (a jack-of-all-trades, whose history includes shark biologist and professional photographer- amazing!) came over last week to get some shots (Thank you Becca!)- here are my favorites:

First movie: Baby Einstein's "Baby's First Sounds" (Thank you LeighAnn!) He thoroughly enjoyed it, as did big sis Cate, seen here hogging the Bumbo.

Ryan has taken to sucking his left thumb lately- a LOT. I try to replace it with a pacifier, and he's fine with that too, but really, it all boils down to the very strong possibility that he may indeed become a thumb-sucker. I have to admit, he DOES look pretty cute, and it's amazing to me that he can consistently get it in his mouth at only 3 months old.

First swim! But no pics, as I was alone at the pool with both kids while Mike was in the U.S. last week on business. We will head to Waterstones again this weekend, and I will be sure to get shots of Ry-Ry enjoying the pool- he does really seem to love it!

Talking! Wonder where he gets it from? If he's anything like me and Catherine, Mike is in serious trouble. Here's a shot Becca took as he babbled away to me. He's got "AAAAA" "OOOOO" and "UUUUU" down pat! And sometimes, if he really concentrates, he'll get a "BMMMMM" out.
