6 more days in the U.S.? I'll take it!

Our return to India has been delayed by a few days...we'll be leaving on 10 Aug now, arriving in Mumbai on 11 Aug. I'm not so unhappy about it, except for the fact that Catherine's new student orientation at the American School of Bombay (ASB) is on 12 Aug....the jet lag is going to be preeeety tough that first week. Ugh.

Things continue to go well here for us- we are taking it one day at a time, and Ryan is growing by leaps and bounds- I feel like he's HUGE now, and so chunky!

Catherine is totally in love with Ryan and is so so so so sweet to him! Here's a little video clip:

Ryan's Sip N See

Ryan made his debut into the world this past weekend at his very own Sip N See.....(for all you northerners out there, it's a post-birth shower where you "sip beverages and see the baby").

It was fantastic! I had so much fun seeing so many friends in one place at one time, and I'm go grateful to Cynthia, Rosa, Jen, Heather, Kristen and Sarah for hosting- thank you, ladies!

Ryan was well behaved for the most part, other than a 1/2-hour meltdown during which my mom had to take him to the back room to spare everyone's eardrums- that kid can get LOUD!

Thank you to everyone who came, and thank you for all the love, hugs, well-wishes and gifts you bestowed upon us!

Happy 1-month Birthday, Ryan!

Ryan is already 1 month old....time flies when you are sleep deprived, but in love nonetheless!

He is already starting to change- he's actually getting chubby! He's been sleeping a lot over the past few days- I think he's packing on the pounds. His personality is starting to show- he sure does have a temper when he does not get his way!

I had a photographer named Sarah Hubbell come to the house this past weekend to take some NUDEY pictures of him....they turned out so great! He slept the entire time and was extremely cooperative.

Check them out!

The many faces of Miss Catherine

Catherine is a total crack-up. She is coming out of her shell more and more every day, and she is a pretty goofy kid. She must get it from me- haha! :)
When I was little, my mom took a collection of pictures of me making funny faces- so we thought it'd be cute to duplicate it.
Here she is: Miss CaTHerine WeaTHerwax (capitalizing the TH b/c that is her most recent accomplishment: broTHer, THumb, THrow, and raTHer)

Coming up for air.....gasp!

Ryan has been home for just over a week now, and we are so so so happy!

We've been busy trying to figure out life with 2 children, and as we're not following a schedule (no sense in trying since we'll be headed back to India soon), it has been a little hectic what with all the on-demand feedings, dirty diapers, laundry, big-people meals, etc.

I'm proud to announce that Ryan weighed in at 6 lbs, 1 oz at his 2-week+ checkup- he was up 6 ounces in only 4 days home from the NICU! He has been a good eater...more like a snack-n-nap type of guy, but I'm happy to accommodate him, as long as he's growing! He has a very calm disposition- until it's time to eat. And then- watch out! He's a yeller! So far, his eyes have remained blue, and his dark hair has yet to fall out He might have dimples, we're not quite sure. He is so cute! (If I may say so myself!)

My dad came into town Wed-Sun, and Mike and I were so PROUD to share our son with him. He was so gentle with Ryan- it was very sweet to see him with his grandson. He is really looking forward to seeing Ryan grow and teaching him how to swing a hammer! Haha! My mom has been an IMMENSE help- she is the most productive person I know! I'll sit down to feed Ryan, and she'll cook an entire meal, fold 2 loads of laundry, bathe Catherine and set the table before I can even stand up! She is the REAL Wonder Woman of this family! She has the "touch"- she can get Ryan to settle down almost instantly, and is Catherine's total BFF. Thank GOD for the Mimi's and Papi's of this world- I wish all children could have such great grandparents! I'm thrilled that my children will grow up being so connected to theirs!

Mike has already headed back to India for an 18-day stay where he'll catch up on work...but he will return to Houston on July 31st to pick us up, and we'll all be heading back to India on Aug 4th. Mike has been so much more hands-on with Ryan than he ever was with Catherine- it's the sweetest thing, and it makes me love him even more. He was a great sport and got up with me for many of the night feedings, making sure Ryan got his reflux medicine every 6 hours.

Catherine has been busy telling every person she encounters that she has a new baby brother- and is very happy to share every family detail as of late. She is so gentle with Ryan, and rubs his head and sings to him softly. Her big jobs are helping to replace his pacifier, and handing me wipes during diaper changes. She has entered the rhyming phase- and responds to every comment/instruction with a rhyme....i.e. "Catherine, please put on your shoes" "Shoes, poos, coos, noos, woos, moos!" It's endearing and maddening all at once!

As for me, I'm hangin' in there....pretty sleep deprived, but over the moon to have my baby boy home. Ryan is becoming more and more alert every day, and it thrills me to see his eyes for 1/2 hour at a time now! He is already growing, and I hope I can remember how teeny tiny he started out. Aaahh, the LOVE!

Quick update

Well, we've been waiting and waiting, but Ryan is still not home. He had a drop in his heart rate- called a Brady- due to the reflux on Monday, which started a 5-day watch on him. So now we are looking at him coming home on Saturday July 4th- IF he does not have any more episodes. So far, so good! I hope I'm not cursing us by saying that...
Mike and I are still going at 11 am and 8 pm, and we are starting to wear pretty thin- I'm not sure how some parents do this for months on end. I feel like I'm not being the best mother to him and I'm having serious "Mommy Guilt" lately. I cry almost every time I leave him now. And even though I know in my head that it's the best thing for him, it's hard to convince my heart of that right now.
Catherine is doing shockingly well, considering Mike and I are absent for long periods of the days...Mimi keeps her fully entertained and we are so so so grateful.
Will continue to update as we know more.
