Healthy, healthy, healthy!

That's my mantra today. All I want is a healthy baby.

Went to see my OB/Gyn today, where she performed the weekly ultrasound and non-stress test. Things seem to be good- he's up to 5 lbs, 6 oz; the blood flow through the umbilical cord is good; he's practicing his breathing and his lungs look to be mature; he's moving a lot and his heart rate increases every time he moves; my fundus is measuring right on....

But there was some alarming news: my amniotic fluid levels are down, and have been decreasing for several weeks now.

So- what this means: I'm due to have another ultrasound done on Saturday. If the fluid levels are even lower, she will either check me into the hospital to be monitored, or deliver the baby.

I'm a little worried- I'm not even 36 weeks! I'm nervous that he will be too small or not developed enough....but my doctor has pointed out that with my history, it's better for the baby to be OUT than IN. There is no sense in pushing him longer and causing him distress in any way.

What's the big deal about low fluid, you may ask? According to my Dr., there are several risks: 1) without sufficient cushioning, the baby may lay right on the umbilical cord and cut off his own nutrients/oxygen 2) the placenta may begin to detach from the uterine wall 3) it's oftentimes an indication that growth has slowed down and the baby would get better nutrients outside the womb.

So- everyone is springing into action. My mom will fly in tomorrow morning. Mike will fly in on Saturday morning. And hopefully by Saturday afternoon, we'll know what our next step is going to be.

Until then, please say some prayers for a HEALTHY baby. Thank you so much!
